A multi-generation Canadian farm combining tradition, sustainability, and modern food production for local and international markets.
Established in 1978, River Valley Farms is a second-generation, family-owned agricultural business based in Manitoba, Canada, led by siblings James Kuhl (COO) and Kristen Gray (CAO). Farming more than 3,000 acres, the company combines hands-on agricultural expertise with modern food processing to deliver traceable, high-quality ingredients to customers across North America.
What began as a hardworking prairie farm has grown into a trusted name built on relationships, integrity, and hands-on involvement. Decisions are made around the same table where quality meals are shared. We ensure the food we grow is worthy of our own family, and the best for everyone’s table.

As a family business, sustainability isn’t a trend; it’s a responsibility. The land is carefully managed with a long-term view, knowing it must support not only today’s harvest but generations to come. Healthy soils, thoughtful farming practices, and respect for the natural environment are central to everything they do, ensuring quality food and a thriving farm well into the future.
Long recognized for producing high-quality potatoes, River Valley Farms has evolved to meet changing markets and growing demand for premium, farm-fresh foods. Today, the farm is expanding into specialty crops like hemp hearts and fresh asparagus produce, supplying customers across Canada and around the world. While the products have grown, the values have not. Our family pride, care for the land, and a commitment to putting good food on the table remain at the heart of everything we produce.
At the heart of River Valley Specialty Farms is a strong commitment to organic and regenerative agriculture. Moving away from conventional, chemical-intensive farming, we focus on soil health through cover cropping, minimal tillage, compost applications, and increased crop diversity. Our land’s sandy-loam soils are ideally suited for hemp and specialty crops, with a growing season that runs from spring seeding through fall harvest.
Looking ahead, RVSF continues to evolve its regenerative farming model by exploring intercropping, livestock grazing on cover crops, and further soil-building techniques. On the processing side, the company remains focused on food safety innovation, maintaining validated kill-step controls and HACCP-based monitoring through its Gentle Processing™ system. By pairing sustainable farming with advanced processing, River Valley Specialty Farms is building a future that delivers safe, nutritious, and responsibly produced food ingredients for today and for generations.
